When we are interacting with people who are different to ourselves, we are often feeling unsure about what to say and do and how to ‘read’ the other person. In short, we are feeling uncertain about the best way to connect. This is normal and the other person is likely to feel the same about us.

In this session we will discuss a few strategies on how to overcome this potential barrier to communication so that we feel more confident and prepared when having a conversation with our diverse communities in the Waikato. One of those strategies is the art of asking questions. What do we ask? How do we ask? When is it a good time to ask? Participants are encouraged to share their experience and wisdom.

How do we apply a curious and open mind to expand on our knowledge about diverse people? How do we reduce our own conscious and unconscious bias with each interaction and increase our confidence with diverse people?
The art of asking has already started…
