Diversity Counselling New Zealand (DCNZ) offers counselling and psychotherapy services for migrants and former refugees since its establishment in 2013. Our organization has great connection with ethnic communities and takes a comprehensive community-oriented strength-based approach to enhancing the well-being of ethnic people, families, and communities.  

In our organization, all our practitioners are registered professional counsellors and clinical psychologists hold annual practice certificates. 

We are offering our service in English, Spanish, Hindi, Korean, Tamil, Japanese, Sinhalese, Punjabi, Mandarin/Chinese, Somali, Amharic, Arabic, Dari, Farsi, Urdu, Bisaya, Tagalog, French, Fiji Hindi, Cantonese, Marathi and Konkani. For other languages, we use interpretation services.

How do I schedule an appointment with a Counsellor? 

You can contact us through text, phone call, email.  We will explain you the process of connecting with a counsellor suited to your needs. 

How long is a counselling session? 

Counselling sessions typically last for 50-60 minutes.  

How many counselling sessions will I need? 

Determining the number of sessions needed can be challenging and varies based on the complexity of your concerns and your personal goals. It is recommended to have an open discussion with your Counsellor about your needs and regularly review your progress together. 

Will my sessions be confidential?  

Yes. All information shared in your sessions will be kept private unless there are legal or safety concerns that necessitate disclosure. 

Do you offer services in languages other than English?  

Yes, we offer services in multiple languages. Please let us know your language preference when you contact us, and we'll match you with a counsellor who can speak your language.  

Can I bring someone – a support person to my counselling sessions? 

Yes. The main objective of the process is to ensure your sense of safety and comfort, including the option of having a support person present if needed.  

I feel stressed – should I see a counsellor?  

Visiting a counsellor is like going for a physical health check-up, but it focuses on your mental and emotional well-being. It's a supportive way to address and manage feelings of stress, anxiety, or any other mental health concerns, offering guidance and strategies to improve your overall emotional health.  

How are Diversity Counsellors different from other counsellors?  

DCNZ practitioners are: 

  • Registered professional counsellors.  

  • Have Annual practice Certificates (APC) 

  • They are from migrants or former refugee background. 

  • They have experience working with ethnic communities.  

What does it cost? 

  • You may be able to access funded counselling. Talk to us. 

  • If you are an international student, your insurance may cover the cost of counselling. Talk to us. 

Can I have online counselling?  

Yes, you can have counselling online. Many counsellors offer online services. Talk to us.
